Darr (1993)

Darr is a 1993 Bollywood film directed by Yash Chopra. It is the story of an obsessed lover (Shahrukh Khan) and the lengths he goes to get his true love (Juhi Chawla) who’s already married to her husband (Sunny Deol). Incidentally,the film was originally offered to Aamir Khan, who was due to play the role of Rahul but because of the negative associations with the character, Aamir later decided to pull out of the film.

It was then offered to Ajay Devgan, who also pulled out. In the end, Shahrukh Khan was finalised for the role of Rahul and it began the successful relationship between Yash Raj Films and Shahrukh Khan. The film is considered one of Shahrukh Khan’s best performances and won him acclaim from critics and audiences alike.

Sunil Malhotra, a valiant Naval officer loves a young woman named Kiran Awasti, who loves him too. All is well for both of them to get married, but their lives are disrupted by an insane man named Rahul Mehra, who also gives his heart to Kiran when he met her back during his college years. Rahul often makes threatening telephone calls to Kiran and tries to meet her. Sunil also attempts to trace him and unmask him to no avail. Things get out-of-hand on Sunil and Kiran’s wedding night, with Sunil’s life in danger and the target of an unstoppable assassin.
