Rangeela’s super success may be owed to a sensuous Urmila, a delightful peformance by Aamir and superb percussion music by A R Rehman. Rangeela is considered a landmark in Indian commercial cinema; it features breakthrough performances, a superlative music score and streetwise direction, despite a predictable and weak plot.
Rangeela is a great musical hindi movie. It is stylishly edited and directed by Ram Gopal Verma which helps quicken the pace between the seven or so songs throughout the movie. After an impressive performance as a child artiste in Shekhar Kapur’s Massom Urmila was dabbling with films as a grown-up for quite sometime but hadn’t tasted success. If a phenomenon called Ramgopal Varma hadn’t happened in her life, Urmila would have been relegated to pages of forgotten artistes.
